Do you find yourself throwing together whatever you can to post, without any real meaning or intention behind it? Did you ever consider that there are many different types of content that are meant for different purposes? Have you ever thought about if your business goals and posts are aligned with each other?
If These Questions Made You Think, Here Is What You Need To Know
When you post on social media for your business it is crucial to have intention and thoughtfulness behind what you are doing and why. Otherwise, you may be posting a reel that is positioned to go viral but your goal is to get local bookings. This leaves you stuck and wondering why you are not getting bookings even though you may have gotten 100,000 views on your reel. These views may have been 99.9% out of your local area, and therefore would not realistically turn into bookings. This is why it is so important to define what your goal for your post is and to ensure the type of content you use reflects that goal.
Some common categories of content include: entertainment, educational, storytelling, trends, behind the scenes, and high-end professional media (brand story, product/service promo, etc.) Each of these categories have a benefit and are all useful in their own way – you just need to make sure you use the right type in the right scenarios. Here is a further breakdown of some of these categories.
Entertainment
This can be a really cool and exciting reel that captures viewers attention and leaves them intrigued to watch the whole reel. These are great for viral or just for fun reels to add personality to your business page. They often (not always, depending on the scenario and business) do not result in sales or bookings but they may help grow your following and increase engagement.
Educational
This is any form of teaching – such as sharing tips and tricks to your viewers. These are great for positioning you as a knowledgeable and trusted expert in your field. This provides lots of value to viewers and works well for viral videos as well as proving to local clients that you are a trusted professional.
High-End Professional Media
This is professionally created media for your business. There is a psychological connection for viewers between beautiful, high-end, cohesive media and top notch services/products – which drives sales or bookings. This is useful for a brand story, product/service launches, and elevating each of the reel categories if your goal is to have a high-end overall image.
Storytelling
This is a great way to drive curiosity. These often go viral as I am sure you have seen before. It makes you feel invested in the storyteller’s life and what they experienced. It creates a sense of connection with your audience. This is also great for small business owners to share their authentic stories and help clients feel connected and trust you.
Trends
These are fun, short videos! Since they are so short and quick, there is a lot less resistance to getting viewers to watch the whole video. These often use trending audios as well which helps push videos further in the algorithm. These are great for viral videos as well as building a personal brand for getting local clients, bookings, or sales.
Behind The Scenes
There are times when you want an authentic behind the scenes filmed with your phone. This is great for building trust and showcasing your professional setup or business. Also an amazing way to build your brand and gain trust from viewers which will eventually lead to conversions.
To Recap
Each category is important and it is great to provide a mixture of these on your business page. Just always remember to keep in mind what your goals are and create with intention.
What is the goal for your post?
What is the purpose of the post?
What am I highlighting with this post?
Is your content reflecting the goal, purpose, and highlights?
What type of content are you creating? (Educational, entertaining, bts, etc.)
Is the content high-quality enough to represent my business and this post?
Apply this knowledge this week by:
1. Defining your overall goal for your content.
2. Define your goal for one reel that you would like to create.
3. Create & post a reel that aligns with this goal.
4. Analyze the insights to see if the reel worked for your goal.
Mindset Tip
Keep in mind that consistency with sticking to your goals will bring results over time. Content will flop sometimes, but do not let that upset you. This is a great chance to analyze what is working and what isn’t working. “Failing” is the best way to learn because it actually just shows you what doesn’t work. I have “failed” more times than I can count and it has been the most valuable information that I have had the opportunity to learn from!
